Vignettes on the Use of Plants - Knowledge and Practices in the Pićan Region
The exhibition Vignettes on the Use of Plants: Knowledge and Practices in the Pićan Region showcases the results of field research on the relationship between people and plants in the Pićan region. Plants have long played an essential role in the daily lives of the local community. This exhibition investigates their historical and contemporary uses, highlighting their cultural and personal significance to the local population. It also includes photographs and everyday items collected during the research. The exhibition is organized into six thematic sections: Vignettes on the Use of Plants; Kitchen and Nutrition; Everyday Hygiene and Household; Medežija – Folk Medicine; Beliefs, Rituals, and Customs; and Contemporary Practices of Plant Use in the Pićan Region. The research presented does not depict a closed system. Instead, it shows how knowledge is transmitted, transformed, and renewed, evolving in response to modern needs and ways of thinking.
